Most people hear "life coach" and think of someone handing out motivational quotes. That is not what this is.
A Christian life coach is also not your pastor. And they are not your therapist. They are something different. And for the right person in the right season, they are exactly what moves things forward when nothing else has.
A Christian life coach helps you get from where you are to where God is calling you to go. Therapy looks backward — it processes the past to heal wounds. A pastor speaks into your spiritual community and your walk with God. A life coach looks forward.
And a Christian life coach specifically does this through Scripture, identity in Christ, and God's calling on your life. Not through generic "believe in yourself" frameworks. Through the conviction that your life has a purpose placed in it before you were born.
Clarity. Most people who need a coach are not lazy. They are unclear. They have too many options, too many voices, and too little direction. Coaching cuts through the noise and finds the one next step.
Identity. You cannot build on a broken foundation. If you do not know who you are in Christ — not theoretically, but in how you make daily decisions — you will keep sabotaging the good things you build.
Execution. A plan with no accountability is just a wish. Coaching creates the structure to do the thing you already know you should be doing. Consistently. Not perfectly — consistently.
"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future."Jeremiah 29:11 — NIV
Therapy is for healing. If you are carrying unresolved trauma, clinical anxiety, or a mental health diagnosis — therapy is the right starting point. It processes the past so the past stops running your present.
Coaching is for building. Once you have done enough healing to function — or if your primary challenge is directional, not clinical — coaching helps you build. Identity. Purpose. Marriage. Business. Coaching gives you a specific next step grounded in God's truth about who you are.
Some people need both. That is completely valid. They serve different purposes and are not in competition.
You probably benefit from a Christian life coach if you feel stuck but are not clinically struggling. If you know what God is calling you to but you are not doing it. If you are in a major season of transition. If you want your decisions anchored in identity in Christ rather than fear or other people's expectations.
